Response:
- The mechanisms by which fossils form are still occurring. We do not
often observe them because they are generally out of sight or rare, but
they still happen.
- The La Brea Tar Pits have trapped and preserved animals (and at
least one person) in recent times.
- Pompeii preserved many bodies in 79 C.E.
- Sediments from rivers still cover corpses in their deltas.
- Insects and plants are being covered by geyser deposits.
